about the artist
Kathy Gillis has lived in Fresno, California most of her life. During her college years and thereafter, Kathy worked in the advertising field. However, her love of drawing and especially painting was always with her. Leaving her advertising work, Kathy pursued her long desire to paint and joined a collection of Fresno artists, The Tuesday Group, who painted en plein air, that is, on location. It was the beginning of a career to connect her art with nature.
Her still-life and abstract paintings reflect the attention and carefully studied harmony in the paintings of landscapes. Kathy's journey as an artist has included works in watercolors and oil paintings. She travels throughout California’s Central Valley, Southern California and the California Central Coast for new inspiration.
"I feel that my most honest work is produced from being at one with nature."
Kathy's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and shows. Kathy is an Associate Member of The California Art Club, The American Impressionist Society and The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
